Waarde Theo, Zoudt gij mij een groot genoegen willen doen? Gij kent die uitgave à 15 cents van “Andersen’s vertellingen van de maan” / vertaald door D s ten Kate.─ Zoudt gij mij daarvan bij gelegenheid een ex. kunnen sturen?─ Eerst morgen gaat er eene kist naar den Haag waarin ik de bewuste pakjes zal in - sluiten. Dat voor Pa zal niet meer in tijds te Etten kunnen zijn, maar zend het maar zoo spoedig mogelijk. Tot nog toe heb ik geen antwoord op verscheidene brieven die ik schreef op advertenties _ Ook Oom Vincent antwoordde mij niet. M r Obach vroeg ik of ik personen die informatie aangaande mij mochten verlangen naar hem mocht toezenden en zed _ schreef mij een zeer toegenegen gestemd briefje terug. Enfin, jongen, maar stillekens voortgaan met het oog op Hem aan Wien wij denken wanneer wij zeggen “Wie zal ons het goede doen zien”. à Dieu, groeten aan wie naar mij mocht vragen en steeds Uw liefh. broeder. You know that 15-cent edition of ‘ Andersen ’s vertellingen van de maan’, translated by the Rev. Ten Kate . Could you send me a copy of it when you get the chance? It’s only tomorrow that a crate will be going to The Hague in which I’ll enclose the packages in question. The one for Pa can no longer arrive at Etten in time, but send it as soon as possible anyway. I still haven’t had a reply to various letters I wrote in response to advertisements. Nor did Uncle Vincent answer me. I asked Mr Obach whether any people desiring information about me could apply to him, and His Hon. replied with a very kind letter. At any rate, old boy, we can only continue quietly with our eyes on Him whom we think of when we say ‘Who will shew us any good?’ Adieu, regards to anyone who might ask after me, and ever Your loving brother. Vincent The fourth printing of Andersen ’s prentenboek zonder prenten: Vertellingen van de maan , translated by J.J.L. ten Kate and published in 1870 by A.W. Sijthoff in Leiden, states the price on the cover: ‘15 cents’ (Reeks Algemeene bibliotheek, no. 8). The first edition of the Vertellingen van de maan (Tales of the moon) dates from 1862. The tales, subdivided in the translation into ten evenings, relate events on earth as observed by the moon. Regarding ‘the packages in question’, see letter 66, l. 16 .
